In creative practice, how we define problems shapes how we act. Problem framing is not simply about understanding challenges—it is about how we perceive, construct, and relate to them. Within the CYANOTYPES framework, this competence encourages learners to move beyond reactive responses and toward deeper awareness of the systems they are part of.

Problem Framing asks learners to recognise that challenges are always embedded in wider ecological, social, and technological contexts. It involves making visible the values, relationships, and assumptions that shape how problems are articulated and what forms of response are considered legitimate.

This learning plan introduces trainers to approaches that treat problem framing as an act of design—one that carries ethical and ecological implications. It supports learners in developing the ability to see creatively, think relationally, and act with attentiveness to interdependence.

Rooted in regenerative agency, the plan provides trainers with structured entry points for developing critical reflection, scenario exploration, and multi-perspective analysis. Through discussion-based and practice-oriented methods, learners are invited to reconsider their roles within complex systems and develop new pathways for collective intelligence and action.
