<p>The word canon is borrowed from the Latin canon = norm, rule, which originally comes from the Greek κανών kanón = guideline, standard, something exemplary, decisive. When it comes to education, the canon is usually defined as a corpus of texts, paintings, films etc. that are particularly valuable and relevant for the respective field of study and therefore worthy of transmission. <br />An example: In your first semester, you find yourself in the introductory seminar on film history. The milestones of film history are introduced.</p>
